Tollesbury Surgery have added the following post to their FaceBook page:
This is to alert you regarding potential fire risks in vehicles. There have been some reports of hand sanitizer being the cause of fires when left in vehicles in hot weather that the UK is currently experiencing. The alcohol hand sanitizer is becoming heated resulting in flammable vapours being released. These vapours are reaching their flashpoint and then ignite, setting fire to flammable components within the car. Do not leave hand sanitizer in unattended vehicles in the heat.
Keep safe
So please check the small print of your hand sanitizer as some are more risky than others, but why take the risk? Please don’t leave it in direct sunlight in your car.
