Latest update on libraries re-opening

Over 60 libraries across Essex have now opened their doors to welcome customers back following their closure due to Covid-19.

Customers have been pleased to been able to return and borrow items again.

“I visited today and was impressed with the safety measures and social distancing in place. The staff were informative and helpful. Excellent!”

“A fantastic visit…to borrow books. We’ve missed you. Excellent new stock and everything laid out in a handy way to respect the COVID-19 guidelines. Well done guys, keep up the good work.”

A further seven libraries will re-open during the week commencing 20 July. The remaining seven libraries are being constantly reviewed and, where it is safe and possible, plans are being put in place for them to open during August.

Reservations

From 1 August the reservation service will restart. This is an important and valued part of the library offer and it will enable library users to have access to more stock than is available in just their local library.

Public computers

From 1 August there will also be a limited number of public computers available, enabling those without internet provision at home to access this important service. More details on this will be published soon on the Essex County Council Libraries website.

Of course, libraries are looking slightly different at the moment, due to the safety measures put in place, and are providing a service that is more limited than usual. This video shows what to expect when you visit the library.

For all the latest information on the services available please see our reopening FAQs page.
